Our Mission

Mission Statement

The Road Safety Foundation South Africa is committed to reducing the number of crashes and resulting injuries and fatalities on our roads. Collaborating with Government entities and developing strategic partnerships with the Private Sector, the Foundation strives to introduce an acceptable and efficient mechanism of making our roads safer.

Our Story

About Us

The Road Safety Foundation South Africa was formed back in 2007 by Petro Kruger and Philip Hull, both of whom had more than 20 years of road safety experience. With a number of entities being continuously critical of Government policies and general lack of effective efficiency amongst traffic officers, we decided to try doing things differently. This brought both success and failure.

The positive communication with Government at Ministerial level to local authorities which for us was a priority, was made impossible by the frequent, ongoing changes of these individuals. Compounding the problem, was the fact that in most cases, the appointed individuals had very little or no experience in road safety, often resulting in decisions based on very little fact. (dropping the blood alcohol limit to a zero base as an example).

We hold a unique position within the road safety arena, in that three of the four Directors hold, or have held medical qualifications and have 'walked in the blood' at various crashes over the years. Attending to the injured with both the physical and emotional impact, reinforces our strategy and determination to making a difference on our roads.
